The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has reported that three-quarters of NHS hospitals in England are failing to meet high standards of safety.

Inspectors rated 13 per cent of hospitals “inadequate” for safety while 61 per cent “require improvement”.

Its report, which covers half the hospitals in the country, offers the fullest picture yet of the state of care across England, under a new inspection regime headed by Chief Inspector of Hospitals Sir Mike Richards.

The study also found problems with safety at GP practices. A quarter of GP practices or GP out-of-hours services required improvement.

They have a great deal of knowledge and expertise, and client care seems to be their top priority.
